The Alex Smith saga continues as the recent Adam Schefter driven Tim Tebow trade rumor involving the 49ers has been squelched....by Adam Schefter. It never seemed likely, but once it was out there, things went a little nutty.
As the Tebow rumor dies a quick death, the 49ers media continues to spend their days in Santa Clara waiting for something to happen. Just a bit ago, Trent Baalke apparently left the 49ers offices in a hurry for a meeting and he indicated to the media that he would speak to the media later. That could mean later today, or it could mean when he holds his post-draft conference call. Eric Branch isn't holding his breath so we probably shouldn't either.
A meeting with Alex Smith is the first thing that would jump to most of our minds. But maybe "meeting" is code for lunch? It's getting around lunch time in the pacific time zone, so why not? Maybe a little Togo's to re-energize himself. As Cam Inman pointed out, there really wasn't anything to indicate what this mysterious was about exactly:
GM Trent Baalke was not carrying a bunch of papers titled 'Alex Smith/Tim Tebow contract" or any bag of money as he left 49ers HQ

After that tweet I was picturing Trent Baalke leaving the office with papers falling everywhere with that kind of stuff written on them. Given the insanity of the last few days, it is really the little things in life that keep me sufficiently entertained as we continue our descent into 49ers madness. I really wish someone in the media would work a little harder to follow Baalke around. We need some TMZ-style coverage of this insanity.
