Golden Nuggets: Can We Expect 2014 Salary Cap Boost?

Today marks the start of the third week of NFL free agency, but with most moves made, things will quiet down considerably in the coming days. The owners will be meeting in Palm Beach, Florida this week to discuss potential rule changes, which always makes for interesting material. The league will also be dealing with the Redskins and Cowboys salary cap discipline. The two teams are appealing the loss of cap space, so we'll see how that plays out.

On another salary cap note, the NFLPA is expecting significant growth in the cap in 2014 with the new television deals. Patriots owner Bob Kraft is skeptical of that. It remains to be seen whether that is to simply prevent teams from back-loading contracts or to prevent players from being disappointed and angry if there is not significant growth. If there is an expected boost, it could make for some intriguing contract negotiations over the next couple years.
