Huge. News. Ladies and Gentlemen, Shaun Hill is an Unrestricted Free Agent. Carlos who? This should be priority numero uno for Baalke and Co. I mean, he already beat Alex Smith in a QB competition. He's clearly better. Also, thinking about Shaun Hill reminds me of the words "noodle arm." Heh, noodle arm. That's just funny.
Though Hill may be an excellent backup QB, you've gotta believe that the Lions will be more concerned with DE Cliff Avril. The guy is a good player and this defense needs all the help it can get, especially in regards to pass defense. A week after Matt Flynn torched them, Detroit was Boba Fett'd by the Saints to the tune of, if I recall, ten billion points.
Part of the issue is teaching Ndamukong Suh how to act like a grown man so that he can play some effective football; fortunately, Jim Schwartz is that perfectly level-headed coach who is totally up to the task. But really the Lions need to add some sort of pass rush and some help in the secondary. These are going to be huge needs in FA.
Another glance on defense, quickly, is LB Stephen Tulloch. He is a defensive star for the Lions and a prime candidate for a new contract.
On offense, the biggest question is whether or not Jahvid Best can stay healthy. When he can stay on the field, the kid has all the talent in the world. He really can be a huge catalyst for that run game. Injury issues, however, have plagued his incipient career. If he can stay healthy, then surely he's the man for that ground game. The Lions, however, may want to bring another body in just in case.
