The 49ers have not had a capable coach since the departure of Mr. Walsh. Mr. Walsh was the man who created the dynasty, the locker room climate, and, for good or ill, depending upon perspectives, the methodology that kept fresh faces on the team. His creation of the West Coast Offense pales in comparison to his successes as a leader and manager. Yes, Seifert won a SB. Yes, Mooch made our hearts beat wildly, and occasionally stop; forever cementing his legacy with one word - Bummer! But it was Bill Walsh who created the Championship teams and a winning philosophy. Others parasited upon his efforts.
After a decade of ignominy, Coach Harbaugh comes around. Hopes were high, but hopes were high with each new coach on the carousel. Few expected Harbaugh would have a winning season - let alone vie for the Championship. He did. Shrewd, engaged, knows what it takes to win, and how to create players who can/will win. Mr. Walsh must be smiling. Harbaugh has, before the draft begins, positioned the team to again vie for a championship. His personnel moves are Good - very good. He has a pulse for the team. More importantly, he knows the tenuous nature of winning in the NFL - and remaining successful. Harbaugh will not let his team fail. He views his role as coach with a players perspective. It is he who works out players. It is he who personally intercedes. It is Harbaugh who interacts with his team, prepares them, and places a squad prepared to win on the field.
The 49ers will continue to improve under his leadership. He possesses the drive, intellect, and experience to win it all. Not going to the big game as a player, has likely turned that dream into a mania. That translates into his actions as coach. This coming season will be one for the ages - injuries not withstanding. We will all benefit from Coach Harbaugh's abilities and unwavering desire to win.
