Why am I obsessing over Brian Quick, WR, 6-5", 220, Appalachian State? Do others see Quick like I do - J. Rice Jr? The similarities are striking. Have you seen his game films? Here's a few tapes: http://draftbreakdown.com/brian-quick-a-quick-study . I first caught a glimpse of Quick in the Senior Bowl. Curious, I went to video tapes. Quick is impressive. It is his ability to shed and evade defenders after making a catch that impresses most, and drew comparisons to Rice. Honestly, were it nor for the uniforms, I'd swear he was Rice -- right down to the long strides outrunning defenders.
Quick is not the fastest. Quick will benefit from professional coaching and training. But Quick has the intangibles to be great. He catches the ball away from his body. He can change directions in stride. Once he makes a catch, he pivots, or jukes, and leaves defenders grasping. He is fearless over the middle. And, despite claims he is not that fast, Quick out runs defensers and gains separation.
Arguments are made - Appalachian State is a Div. ll school. He hasn't faced pro level competition. All true. Similar claims were made about Rice - and Randy Moss. That's another upshot. Being able to watch and work with Moss and Davis will only improve Quick.
Harbaugh has positioned the team to take OL players in the first round. That is the team's "weakest" area. Quick is ranked all over the place - depending upon where you look. He's likely a 3 round pick. If the 49ers took him in round 2 - oh well - Good!. (Isn't it great to be so flush the team can draft a player on intangibles?) I may have a man crush. I like Brain Quick and want him on the team. Comments? Other draft wish lists?
