A mere day after Dontavia Bogan tweeted that he had his knee medically cleared to return to action, the 49ers have quickly released him. Bogan was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent last July before blowing out his knee the first week of training camp.
Bogan was already facing a long road back towards a roster spot given the ACL injury he suffered and the number of receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. He'll likely score a training camp invite elsewhere and get a chance to show what he can do. He was quickly turning into one of those guys I'm a fan of for no real rational reason. Sort of my 2012 Jay Moore, or the Kory Sheets or Thomas Clayton for many folks.
The 49ers wide receiver position has some question marks, but they have loaded it up with a lot of bodies to compete. And one would imagine the team will add at least one more in the draft and another one or two rookie free agents to provide some additional camp bodies. Whether that means first or second round talent remains to be seen. Whatever the case, I'll continue my "Marvin Jones to the 49ers" campaign!
