Over my 30+ years of fandom of the greatest football team of all time, I have seen rivalrys come and go. We don't have the multi-decade storied rivalries like the Bears and Packers do due to the NFC West changeups over the years. However, we have some real good ones.
I'm curious about which rivalry is the biggest right now. (This is the reason I didn't include the Rams. Though our teams have a storied history, currently they are still rebuilding.) Here is a list of some of them that I see.
Seattle Seahawks - Over the past few years, they have been the most dominant force in the NFC West (At least as long as Kurt Warner wasn't playing), and most any Seahawk fan will tell you this every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Now, us "upstart" 49ers have taken what is rightfully ours (the NFC West title) and the Seahawks are itching to get it back.
New York Giants - Geez, do I really need to say more? Not one, but TWO heart-breaking NFCCG's they won against us. Both games we played against them last season were very close hard-fought games. The current Super Bowl Champions play a never-say-die game against our team each and every time (and we do likewise against them). A few fumbles (or third down) differences and we might be the defending world champs.
Dallas Cowboys - A rivalry that started in the nineties, the Dallas Cowboys (aka the evil empire) are the bane of many a 49er fan. I'm not going to go into the million and one reasons I hate them (Warning: poster bias detected), but I am including them in the list. *cough* Jerry Jones Sucks *cough* And yes, I HATE THE COWBOYS!
New Orleans Saints - I'm including them because of the sheer number of heart conditions induced in both 49er and Saint fans after the playoff game they played against each other. Plus, with bounty-gate suggesting that they targeted us directly, does this renew the old NFC West rivalry?
Baltimore Ravens - Our mirror image in the AFC. This may not be seen all that often, but between similar built teams being coached by zealously-competitive brothers, this has a huge potential. Also, this was the team that gave us the biggest beatdown last year.
So, which rivalry is the most important right now? I'm curious at what others think about this.
