It seems most 49er fans can agree on at least one thing this off-season, the team has a lot of depth on the roster. And being fans nobody wants any of them to get cut, but the harsh reality is that in a few months, almost half of them will be gone.
It makes it even harder on 49er followers to see guys like Dixon, Dobbs, and Beeler on the bubble. These are the guys who might not be the top talent in their positions, but still have something that garners support.
Are four preseason games really enough to judge which ones to keep and to let go? I say no. I say that each NFL team should be allowed to carry an additional 40 man roster of players allowed to practice with the team and play 6-8 midweek games during the season.
The point of this post is to have some healthy discussion about the practicality of the proposition. Given unlimited resources, everybody would support this. However, there must be some reasons why this isn't happening already, so let's grind it out. Convince me that this wouldn't work.
