So, yesterday on the Top 100 Players of 2012 show they revealed the 30-21 players, and most of you know Frank Gore was ranked number 28. Towards the end of the show the girl host and Warren Sapp had Frank Gore on a video call to hear his reaction and discuss his ranking. At the end of conversation the girl host asked Frank which two 49ers were yet to be revealed on the countdown, because they knew for a fact seven 49ers were on the list, with five already being revealed, including him. He answered Pat and Justin, obviously.
After the call ended and after a commercial break they had a video call with Jason Pierre-Paul and they asked him about the defensive lineman ahead of him. Only three lineman were yet to be revealed but there were four "legit" lineman left: Jared Allen, Justin Smith, Mario Williams and Haloti Ngata. Here was were Sapp showed how dumb he could be. He said out of those four lineman, he believes Justin Smith is the odd one out and won't make it onto the list. SAY WHAT?! Are you crazy? Smith, the most badass lineman on the planet, the guy who had arguably one of the greatest seasons for a defensive lineman ever. He was selected to two All-Pro positions for God's sake! How could he not be on the list?
Look I understand if people want to debate between Smith and Ngata, there is room for debate, I would say Smith, but that's because I've seen him play every game for the past four years. There is even room to debate between Smith and Williams, but Williams missed a lot of games this season, so the edge has to go to Smith at least this year. Jared Allen better than Smith? Heck no. Crazy. Was Sapp really dumb enough to say those three were all better than our own Smith, who completely dominated pro bowl tackles and guards this year?
This is just a complete lapse in knowledge and plain dumb. Besides the fact that he's at LEAST better than one of those three players, Smith is already guaranteed a spot on this year's list. There are seven 49ers on the list and two spots left. Who else on our team is better than Patrick Willis and Smith? The answer is nobody. So really Sapp? Are you that dumb? What makes me even more mad is that nobody even called out Sapp on that statement. Does no one else on that show know math, or even recognize talent at the least?
