Though the news of Ladainian Tomlinson's decision to retire was one of the least surprising bits of NFL news to come around in a while, it is one of the most noteworthy. He leaves the sport fifth all-time in rushing yards, with more than 3,000 yards on the closest active player, and seventh all-time in all-purpose yards.

He was one of the greatest backs we've had the pleasure to watch in the last decade or so.

It would be a disservice not to send him off with a proper Caption This goodbye. This was by far my favorite of the hundred or so photos of Tomlinson at our disposal. It perfectly captures the NFL's beautiful balance of terror and romance, and also Ray Lewis being kind of insane.
