It's almost here. I'm amped and ready, and I know others are too. I can feel the energy as I write. The team will need it. The downside to winning is the brutal schedule following success. Are the players prepared - ready to start a legacy? Was last year an adrenaline rush? Can the Niners do it again? Improve? A fellow Niners fan here in DC is worried. He thinks the tougher schedule will limit the wins. Harbaugh will have a sophomore slump. Injuries. They can't they go 13-3 again - Can they? STOP! I won't hear it. This team is loaded - the personnel better than last year. Alex will have more options and throw more. The Moss pickup is unbelievable. Manningham adds another quality wideout. Etc...
While watching the top 100 show when Pat WIllis was placed; they showed the 49er defense from the QB's perspective. I was frightened - that image was terrifying (and impressive). Qbs will hate to face it. The symmetry is one year tighter. Losing a trip to the big game on an error still hurts ...and motivates. It can be done. The players know it. The fans know it. "it's fun being a 49er fan again."
12-4 is my guesstimate. Strong competition improves a quality team. By the season's end, this team will be the last opponent a team in the NFL wants to face. This team reminds me of the 1971 Miami Dolphins. Talented, Hungry, and ready to play this game with anyone. Each game is a competition to prove who they are; what they are. Harbaugh has them prepared strategically. He wants a SB win as bad as the players; maybe more. That locker room must be intense and it will stay that way until the season's last snap. I'm Ready!!
I want football year round. I hate the off season. There is a way to change the schedule and extend the season.
The Year Round Schedule? It works like this - - Only one Conference plays each week. That doubles the season's length and keeps players healthier - two weeks between games = healthier teams. It also prompts fans to root for a second team = added sales. Inter-conference games occur three weeks mid season. SInce players are healthier, 2 games are added - a 18 game season = 33 weeks (including inter conference weeks -3). The play offs follow the same schedule - only one conference each week. The season is 43 weeks. SInce the season is longer, injured players may stay off IR. Players get 6 weeks off to recuperate. (The draft occurs late in the season and drafted players can play immediately - no more waiting! ) Fans are happier. What's not to like?
