“*insert name* is our future” is a common joke in the NN, but I remembered an article from a few months ago and wondered…will Coach Harbs try a new approach to NFL QBing?
The article I’m referring to is http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2012/04/24/luck-griffin-nearly-teamed-up-at-stanford/.
Has it been JH’s dream since being a HC to try a 2 QB system? Well he did want to try it with RGIII and Luck (as reported) and he obviously perfers an athletic QB (traded up to draft CK), I’ll also remind everyone that not only is Josh Johnson on the 9ers, but he was recruited and played for JH in college also. Could this system work in the NFL? Let’s forget last season, because of the lockout there was no off season to implement a complete system (and it’s also worth mentioning that Alex’s contract is set up so it’s essentially 3 1yr contracts). So far we only have 1 preseason game, but when Kaepernick was in it looked like the whole offense game plan changed, there was the read option and they rolled CK out of the pocket often for passing plays (I believe that did that too for JJ), but when Alex/Tolzien was in the game it was more of a pocket style attack. If JH wanted Luck/RGIII, he must’ve had an offense developed for the system that possibly no one has ever seen or tried to implement.
I know all over the net, there is a big debate over our #2 guy mostly involving CK or Tolzien with JJ mostly being left out, but what if both guys would be the #2 guy depending on the situation (JH did says it’s a 3 way tie for #2, and the NFL 3rd QB rule no longer exists). We might not see much of this in the preseason, as to not give away too much for the regular season, but does it sound crazy to you that JH would try something like this? To me it doesn’t.
I realize there are holes in this theory and it could use some more detail, but it’s Monday and I’m at work (obviously not working) and the thought came to mind. I hope to see some comments discussing the chance of this.
Who's got it better than us?
