Mario Manningham Unlikely To Play On Thursday

Stay connected for news and updates

49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the media, and based on his comments, it would seem unlikely that wide receiver Mario Manningham will play on Thursday. Mannigham's grandfather passed away last week and the funeral is this Thursday.

Manningham did not play last week against the Broncos, which resulted in Randy Moss making his first start of the preseason. Moss, Manningham and Ted Ginn Jr. have all been listed as co-starters opposite Michael Crabtree. Ginn was getting some starting time early, but he likely will be unavailable this week, and really didn't seem to be doing enough to justify his role as a starting wide receiver. How that impacts Friday's roster cuts, remains to be seen.

In the meantime, this means more playing time on Thursday down the rest of the depth chart, including guys like Kyle Williams, A.J. Jenkins, Brett Swain Nathan Palmer and Chris Owusu. Although it would seem like Swain is unlikely to make the roster, he is getting plenty of opportunities to showcase himself, whether it be for the 49ers or for a team to potentially claim him off waivers.
