I'm reading articles around the web - reports on the Niners range from Good to Exceptional. One reports they are one of the top four teams. But there is a more subtle and and very important outlier. Each article tells a story of players working together - helping one another. The 53 man roster is a reality that stands to divide players. With millions in salaries and the fame and all that comes from being a professional football player, this factoid is welcome and one that reveals a shift in culture for the better. When an organization emphasizes and demands camaraderie it instills a traditional virtue of sports. "Sportsmanship" is not dead - at least not in the 49er camp. I'm a helpless homer who tries to keep my emotions checked - but this quality is one that inspires me. What impact it distills during practice and afterwards can only be positive. The Harbaugh family history is replete with this type of commitment to character - old fashioned values. As a someone who holds morality dear, I believe in good and evil, right and wrong, and good prevailing. Those players associated with this environment must be shocked. It explains much about the team's turnaround and what we saw on TV. It also bodes well for this team going forward. I am grateful for coach Harbaugh and the standards he set for the 49er organization.
