We're back for another round of NFL Power Rankings as Week 3 is a wrap and Week 4 is just around the corner. The 49ers dropped a brutal loss to the Vikings, which means they will slide down a few spots down in most power rankings. After spending last week as the apparent top dog, the 49ers slipped to fourth in most rankings, with one second place ranking thanks to NFL.com.
After the 49ers climbed to No. 1 last week, there was plenty of teeth-grinding as people were concerned about being perceived as the top dog. The Vikings saw that and likely used it for added motivation. They came out swinging and got the huge victory. When a team is on top of the world, the rest of the league brings their A-game and is swinging for the fences.
I don't think teams will suddenly think the 49ers are worthless, so the challenge does not get any easier. We are approaching the quarter pole of the season, which means the 49ers have three months of regular season, and hopefully a fourth month of post season play. No game is a gimme as the NFC West is stacking up and we saw what supposed gimmes look like on Sunday.
