We break down the 49ers 34-0 decimation of the New York Jets.
Well, then. How 'bout them San Francisco 49ers? In a game that was really never in doubt, the San Francisco 49ers destroyed the New York Jets 34-0 to improve to 3-1. The 49ers struggled to get points on the board early, but even with a 10-0 halftime lead, this game never really seemed in doubt. The New York Jets could not get a thing going and it showed. Mark Sanchez struggled, the run game struggled, the defense struggled. Aside from a pair of missed field goals, the 49ers dominated in all three phases of the game.
While it was apparent throughout that the 49ers should have probably put up 40+ points, it was a solid win nonetheless. The offense struggled at times to get going in the first half, but they seemed to get things in gear in the second half. The key once again was the rushing game. Although Frank Gore only managed 62 yards, the team effort was ridiculous, averaging 5.6 yards per carry to net 245 total rushing yards. Even if you remove Colin Kaepernick's 30-yard run late, it was still an inspiring effort.
Speaking of Kaepernick, we finally saw the 49ers open up the playbook with him. Aside from his Week 1 run, Kaepernick had been under the radar through the first three weeks. The 49ers officially put teams on notice today as Kaepernick had five rushes for 50 yards and almost hooked up on a big touchdown pass to Randy Moss. We'll see how frequently this shows up. It was also nice to see him slide down at the end of the game and put the 49ers in position to take a knee instead of looking for personal glory. That's smart, team play.
If you missed the front page, I posted our story stream for the game. If you go in, you can check out a variety of posts related to some key plays throughout the game. There were no pieces of 49ers injury news, otherwise we would have had updates about that as well. We'll be doing this story stream each week for the game and it will include the game threads and other tidbits. Enjoy and what a day to be a 49ers fan!
