Drew Kerr Was Right.

Some of you may have been following the mini-debate between me, a guest here from Gang Green Nation, and your own Drew Kerr. Drew said he expected the 49ers to roll up 200+ yards rushing on the Jets D, and I said I thought Gore was not the type of ultraquick, outside the tackles kind of back that really hurts the Jets. I thought Gore would not hurt us, so I said don't be surprised if the Jets limit SF to under 100 yards rushing. I also suggested Drew lost some credibility by making such a huge rushing figure prediction. Finally, I suggested a bet - if 200+ yards happens, I post here. If 100 or less yards happens, Drew posts on GGN. Drew never responded to that bet, but I figured what the heck, doesn't cost me anything more than my Jets pride, and after the shellacking we took today, how much of that could be left anyway? So here I am, honoring the bet that was never made.

Drew, you were right. The SF rushing attack steamrolled the Jets today. Nice job on a seemingly over the top prediction. I'm giving you your props.

To salvage what little shreds of dignity I have left, well, I was half right anyway. As I expected, Gore did not really hurt the Jets. 21 carries for 62 yards, 3.0 YPC is nothing to get excited about. Unfortunately for the Jets, your SF Offensive Coordinator had a truly brilliant gameplan, which you executed to perfection. So while Gore's between the tackles style could not hurt the Jets, SF did everything in its power to get outside the tackles. Option plays, backup QB carries, WR carries, Smith carries - your WRs and QBs got 106 rushing yards, nearly all of it outside the tackles. That is how to attack the Jets old and slow LB corps, and the Niners did it with gusto and with creative playcalling. Your lead back's style played into the Jets hands, so you used every trick in the book to get outside with other playmakers. Bravo. An excellent scheme to exploit the Jets weaknesses.

So congratulations Drew Kerr on a bold prediction come true, and congratulations Niners on an impressive victory today. For what it's worth, to this Jets fan's eyes, and not just based on today's game, the Niners look like the best team in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised to see them going to Disney World in February. Then again, after today's debacle, my prognosticating skills have to be severely called into question.

Good luck the rest of the year. You guys look truly elite.
