The 49ers and Packers released their Thursday practice participation reports and there were not a lot of changes. The most important news for 49ers fans is that Ted Ginn and Brandon Jacobs sat out another day of practice. While they may still be listed as questionable on tomorrow's final injury report, it seems fairly unlikely that we will see them suit up on Sunday.

Ginn's absence means we will see Kyle Williams returning punts. I am fully prepared for it, but I know that when that first punt (of what will hopefully be many) sails towards Williams, I'll be somewhat nervous. The 49ers have taken the "get right back on the saddle" approach and given Williams plenty of reps returning punts. If there was any concern about Williams struggling, at least he knows the coaching staff is confident in him.

The absence of Brandon Jacobs means more work for Kendall Hunter, and potentially some short yardage work for Anthony Dixon. Hunter has proven he can play with some power, and while Frank Gore will likely finish with more touches, I think it is safe to say Hunter will get quite a bit of work on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see how much time he and Gore split on short yardage and goal line situations. Really, it will be interesting just to see how the 49ers split up carries between Gore and Hunter in general, and how we see LaMichael James used. There are so many question marks about what this offense will entail, and the preseason did not answer many of them.
