NFL power rankings, 2013: Broncos, Seahawks among hottest heading into playoffs

USA TODAY Sports

We break down NFL power rankings for the final week of the regular season, and look at the 49ers and momentum heading into the playoffs.

The NFL regular season is officially a wrap, which means we get one last look at power rankings before the playoffs get going. While power rankings are entirely subjective, they do at least provide a glimpse at how people are viewing the league, and some of the hotter teams heading into the playoffs. And it's always fun for a little discussion.

At the moment, it seems like the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are two of the hottest teams in the NFL heading into the playoffs. The Washington Redskins are probably right there with them as well. Of course, momentum guarantees next to nothing come playoff time. The New York Giants scuffled much of last season before turning it on and winning the Super Bowl. The 2009 New Orleans Saints lost three straight heading into the playoffs. The 2007 New York Giants scuffled late as well.

Playing well in December provides some measure of confidence for fans, but it's really just a matter of playing well in January and February. That's fairly obvious, but given the 49ers ups and downs at times this season, now is as good a time as any to find that needed consistency. If the 49ers win the Super Bowl, they would be the first team to do so without having a three-game winning streak during the regular season. Now is as good a time as any to snap that streak.
