We take a look at one of the highlights of going to the Super Bowl: not having to care about the Pro Bowl!
Somebody call the NFL, it's time to replace a whole lot of 49ers in the Pro Bowl! The 49ers win over the Falcons sends San Francisco to New Orleans for Super Bowl XLVII and opens up quite a few potential roster spots. The 49ers had seven starters and two reserves named to the team, as well as eight alternates.
The 49ers Pro Bowl contingent included ILB NaVorro Bowman, OT Joe Staley , FS Dashon Goldson, SS Donte Whitner, RB Frank Gore, OLB Aldon Smith, DT Justin Smith, OG Mike Iupati, ILB Patrick Willis, OG Alex Boone, OLB Ahmad Brooks, OT Anthony Davis, TE Vernon Davis, C Jonathan Goodwin, P Andy Lee, CB Carlos Rogers, ST C.J. Spillman.
Now, not so much. I would make the argument that one of the best things about going to the Super Bowl is that we don't have to give a crap about the Pro Bowl. Normally that is the last time we'll see the 49ers playing football for the season. Not this year!
