Late money coming in on the 49ers

We take a final look at the odds on Super Bowl Sunday.

Gatorade, national anthem and more!

The Super Bowl is a day away, which means last minute opportunities to get wagers in on the game in all shapes and sizes. The 49ers have been more or less locked in as 3 1/2 point favorites for a while now, but prop bets are moving around a bit. One of the more famous prop bets, the length of the National Anthem has come down from 2:15 to 2:10 as oddsmakers get a better handle on where the money is coming in.

Bovada sports book manager Kevin Bradley had some comments about prop betting thus far:

"Bets have steadily been coming in on the Super Bowl props, but two really stand out right now. The National Anthem length has been far more difficult to handicap this year than previous years with Alicia Keys saying she is singing her own version. Therefore, we went a little high at 2:15, but with two thirds of the money on the under I dropped it to 2:10 and now we're seeing money on both sides. The MVP odds are always really popular, Patrick Willis has seen a lot of interest dropping him from 66-1 to 40-1, even Alex Smith at 100-1 took so much action I had to drop him to 75-1. From a volume perspective, both quarterback are leading the way in bets."

Make sure and get your prop bets in while you can. Even if you miss the pre-game prop bets, there will most certainly be second half bets to jump on. And of course, the post-game Gatorade dump should remain open all game long.

Over or under on the Alicia Keys National Anthem?

One fo the most popular Super Bowl prop bets each year is the length of the National Anthem. In 2012, Kelly Clarkson rolled in at 1:34, while the previous year saw Christina Aguilera clock in at 1:53 after skipping a line. This year, Alicia Keys is singing the anthem, and the over/under has been set by Bovada at a whopping 2:15.

Why so high? Well, apparently Keys told MTV News that she would be doing it "my style and my way". Bovada's Kevn Bradley indicated that such a comment is enough to move the over/under up:

"Whenever a singer announces they will do their own rendition of the anthem, it complicates the situation because it usually runs much longer," said Bradley. "You are never sure what to expect."

The last two years, with Clarkson and Aguilera singing the anthem, there has been some content on YouTube featuring their previous versions of the Anthem. I did a quick search of YouTube and I am not seeing any versions of the Anthem from Alicia Keys. That makes the process of wagering a little bit more difficult.

That also means sports books might be flying a bit in the dark themselves with speculation. I would lean towards taking the under. Christina Aguilera is a bit of a "long" singer and she still would have come in well under 2:15 if she had hit all the lines two years ago. I imagine it will be close, but the "under" wager seems like a better bet.

Where will the 49ers-Ravens line settle?

The San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens are still twelve days away from Super Bowl XLVII, but the line might be pretty close to getting settled. The folks at Odds Shark provide a collection of odds from around the Internet, and their Super Bowl XLVII odds are sitting at 49ers either -3 1/2 or -4 depending on your gambling site of choice.

RJ Bell form PreGame.com had a chance to chat with several sports book directors, and they provided their projection of the final line for the game. Among others, Bell spoke with Jay Rood (MGM), Johnny Avello (Wynn), Jay Kornegay (Hilton) and Jimy Vaccaro (William Hill). The first three projected the line closing at 3 1/2 points, while Vaccaro projected it closing at four points.

All four provided some additional insights into the game, some of which provide value as you look at your options. Kornegay views the teams as fairly even, and you should take any points you can get. Avello felt the Ravens would continue getting good money because they had won money for their supporters the last two weeks. Vaccaro expected Colin Kaepernick prop bets to get huge interest.

Super Bowl XLVII odds: Who will claim MVP?

The Super Bowl is still 12 days away, but we are starting to get some different betting options aside from just the game. The line on the game has settled in at 49ers as four point favorites, but having opened at 49ers -5, there is a decent amount of money coming in on the Ravens.

The first significant betting option, well, after the coin toss, is the Super Bwl MVP. It should surprise nobody that the two starting quarterbacks are sizable favorites right now. Whether it is fair or not, the winning quarterback is often the MVP of the game. 25 of the 46 Super Bowl MVPs have gone to the winning quarterback, including the last three to Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Ray Lewis follows the quarterbacks, which again is not surprising. Only eight defensive players have claimed Super Bowl MVP, but I can't imagine many were in Lewis' situation of retiring after the game as a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Here are the full odds to win MVP at Super Bowl XLVII:

Colin Kaepernick (SF) QB 7/4

Joe Flacco (BAL) QB 5/2

Ray Lewis (BAL) LB 6/1

Frank Gore (SF) RB 17/2
