One of the biggest possible needs the 49ers have this off-season is a #2 TE. I think they'll want that guy to be like Walker, something of a multi-use player. A guy that can line up in the backfield, on the end, in the slot, wide.. etc.. Fast, but with good blocking ability. I don't think you find that guy by drafting a TE, you find it by drafting a stout wide receiver or a tall running back.
Looking around it really seems like Chris Harper might be that guy. 6'0, 230, he'd probably have to bulk up a bit to get to Walker's 240ish. He was a 4 star recruit out of high school and signed with Oregon hoping to be a quarterback. They moved him to WR and he shortly thereafter transferred to Kansas St where he's put up modest, but consistent numbers. He's being projected to run the 40 in 4.45 range.
Really looks like the Walker mold to me and is currently projected as a 5th rounder. 49ers could maybe use their late 4th to get him or move up in the 4th with their extra picks.
Anyone have any thoughts on this guy? Any K-State fans with more viewing experience?
