Sorry for the delay posting the results, I know some are anxious to know if they are moving onto the NinersNation Prediction Championship. Between the 49ers earning a Super Bowl birth, the Sacramento Kings being sold to Seattle, MLK Holiday allowing a train of contractors to interrupt my day and this wonderfully insidious thing called AT&T U-Verse I've been distracted. Ya, but no one cares.

All I have to say about the NFC Championship Game is Matt Ryan graduated to elite status and the 49ers tough schedule gave them the experience to claw back and win the game .... which I still don't know how they did it.

Playoff Results

Third round of eliminations this week with the Top 4 (actually 5 this time) moving onto the Super Bowl Round to play for the NinerNation.com Prediction Trophy. The remaining contestant who picks the Super Bowl winner along with the closest actual score wins our trophy. As a reminder, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR TIEBREAKER ENTRY, which will be how many CBS - How I Met Your Mother television promos will play during the Super Bow ... kidding. Which will be how many combined offensive yards compiled for both the 49ers and Ravens. Please don't forget Str8Balr, you're playing for a dynasty here.

• liberty_JAC - I still counted your semi-late prediction but game day bucket still went boom.
• bignerd - Wouldn't have been a problem if you had the balls to pick the Ravens. Go sit on the bench with the rest of the losers who played not to lose.
• ninerpunk - Came as close as the Falcons. One point kept you out of the title match but impressive playoff run.

Scoring Explained

Prediction Contest Rules and Guidelines

Your prediction has these same three components as the actual game score.

1) If you predict the correct winner for an individual game, we will score your prediction against the actual game. If you predict the incorrect winner for an individual game, your prediction will not be scored.

2) Ideally, you will predict the exact point differential of the actual game. Say, for example, this is 45. If you predict a score with a PD of 45, the difference between your predicted PD and the actual PD is 0 (45 - 45 = 0). The worse your prediction, the greater that difference becomes. Therefore, the closer the difference is to zero, the better.

3) Ideally, you will predict the exact point total of the actual game. Say, for example, this is 65. If you predict a score with a PT of 65, the difference between your predicted PT and the actual PT is 0 (65 - 65 = 0). The worse your prediction, the greater that difference becomes. Therefore, the closer the difference is to zero, the better.

So, assuming that you predict the correct winner of the individual game, we simply add the difference between your predicted and the actual PD to the difference between your predicted and the actual PT. The closer this total is to zero, the better your prediction is. A zero exactly will always be a perfect prediction.

pPD = Predicted Point Differential
aPD = Actual Point Differential
pPT = Predicted Point Total
aPT = Actual Point Total
x = Subscore

|pPD - aPD| + |pPT - aPT| = x

That total becomes your subscore for each individual game. These subscores are then ranked, and the five best (including ALL ties) are awarded points. Perfect predictions are awarded 10 points. If the highest subscore for a particular game is not a perfect prediction, it is awarded 5 points. Points then follow in descending order, so that all of the second best predictions get 4 points, the third best all get 3 points, and so on.
