Average Cap Hit of Top 5 Players By Position

What got me interested in this subject was to see how the Pistol / Zone Read Option could change the way that offenses are financially structured. I found some data on the average cap hit of the top 5 players at each position. We can use this data as a baseline of what it would cost to get a premier player at a position. Here's the link to the data, but I will type out the results below.

Defensive Ends - $16.5M

Quarterbacks - $15.2M

Offensive Tackles - $11.8M

Wide Receiver - $11.4M

Cornerback - $10.4M

Linebacker - $10.0M

Safety - $9.5M

Running Back - $9.4M

Defensive Tackle - $9.3M

Tight End - $7.8M

Guard - $7.4M

Center - $4.9M

Kicker - $4.0M

Punter - $2.9

The biggest surprise for me was that premier DEs were the top paid athletes in the NFL. The scale seems to go QB Killer > Passing Offense > Passing Defense > Run Defense > Run Offense > Special Teams. I'll leave it here so that people can add comments based on their opinions.
