Dawson vs. Akers

He's the least talked about guy on the 49ers, but if he keeps missing field goals, I guarantee you fans will start talking. Through six games, new 49ers kicker Phil Dawson ranks 27th out of 32 kickers in completion percentage. That's worse than former 49ers kicker David Akers (21st). Shoot, even the infamous Billy Cundiff (23rd) has a better completion percentage than Dawson.

It's ironic because Akers was run out of town on a rail here last year despite setting an all-time NFL record for most field goals made in a single season (2011). Now if you break down their stats by field goal distance and extra points, they're identical and perfect when attempting kicks under 40 yards this year. But when you look at kicks attempted beyond 40 yards, Akers is 5 for 7 and Dawson is 1 for 4.
