I think that a good young safety could be an improvement over Whitner, and besides, I don't think that his coverage and hand skills warrant what he will ask for. (I'd be ok with keeping him on the cheap). If he were let go there might be enough money to re-sign both Michael Crabtree and Aldon Smith, because of how low rookie contracts are these days.
Just a thought. What do y'all think? Are there any college Free/strong safeties out there that are more talented than Whitner? I think that Eric Reid is flexible to be either SS or FS, which opens up the choices. Let the debates begin.
