The San Francisco 49ers are back at practice today, and it was preceded by the coordinators meeting with the media. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman had a chance to discuss Mario Manningham, who is working his way back from the PUP list. Our friends from The Pulling Linemen were on hand and tweeted out that Roman said Manningham has been getting some practice with the ones this week.
While he is getting starting work, according to Cam Inman, it is unlikely Manningham will be playing this Sunday against the Jaguars. Manningham said he is not expecting to make his debut this Sunday, which would put him squarely in line to re-join the roster after the bye week. The 49ers got him back to practice last week, which began the 21-day clock to get him on the 53-man roster. That expires following the bye when the 49ers will be preparing for the Carolina Panthers.
For now, the 49ers will stick with their current contingent of wide receivers. After Anquan Boldin and tight end Vernon Davis, the passing game's biggest component lately has been Frank Gore. The 49ers are in a stretch of their schedule where that will suffice. After the bye, there will be fewer such opportunities, so they might as well get Manningham as close to 100 percent as possible.
