For Fun: The 2013 Jacksonville Jaguars Compared to the 2008 Detroit Lions

Ah, Florida. The capital of NFL dysfunction. All due respect to this year's Dolphins team, but the Jaguars/Bucs and the last decade of Dolphins football has led me to this conclusion.

Just how bad are the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Anyone else get the feeling that the Jaguars might not win a game this year?

Even if they pick up Josh Freeman? (It was a joke)

I found some interesting statistics. Here are the 2008 Lions (yes, the only 0-16 NFL team in history) actual stats compared to stats projected for the 2013 Jaguars if they continue at their current pace of scoring, offensive/defensive prowess, etc.

Offensive TDs

2008 Lions: 28

2013 Jaguars Projected Over 16 Weeks: 12

Offensive Yards Gained

2008 Lions: 4292

2013 Jaguars Projected Over 16 Weeks: 3584

Total Points Scored:

2008 Lions: 266

2013 Jaguars Projected Over 16 Weeks: 124

Points Allowed:

2008 Lions: 517

2013 Jaguars Projected Over 16 Weeks: 516

The 2008 Detroit Lions started 5 different QBs, started Moran Norris at FB, and had this infamous play that ranks up there with the "butt-fumble": (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EZrpEdc0ZQ)

The 2013 Jacksonville Jaguars have started 2 different QBs (using the term QB very loosely here), start Will Ta'ufo'ou at FB, lost to the Raiders, and somehow made Tarvaris Jackson look like an NFL quarterback.

(Maybe FBs are a common thread here? Have a bad fullback and you won't win any games?)

The Lions were 27th in points-per-game, 27th in passing yards, 32nd in rushing yards, and on the bottom of just about every defensive ranking.

The Jags currently are 32nd in scoring and yards per game, 30th in passing yards, and 31st in rushing yards.

This makes me think that maybe the Jaguars should just give up and join either the CFL or the Arena League? (On the other hand, maybe that is an insult to the CFL and Arena League)

Anyway, this makes me (1) very happy to be a 49ers' fan, and (2) look forward to week 8!

One more funny thing about the Jaguars' fan base:
