NFL expansion, CFL merger, radical realignment and other ideas.

This plan is not feasible to be done in 1 year, or even several years. I am talking 2030 at the earliest before all of this can be accomplished.

Grant expansion franchises to Los Angeles, Anaheim, Portland, San Antonio/Austin, Mexico City, Las Vegas and Sacramento.

Also, the Bills move from Buffalo to Columbus, the Saints move from New Orleans to Norfolk, and the Jaguars move from Jacksonville to Orlando, while the Jets move to Brooklyn.

The CFL merger, including the 9 current franchises + expansion Quebec City and Halifax/Moncton, is a lot more complicated, due to the various significant rule differences, yet it can be worked out. They will have to do most of the adapting, however the NFL should at least consider adopting some of their rules.

Realign into 10 divisions of 5 teams each, including no more NFC or AFC, just 10 geographically-based divisions.

Atlantic Division: Brooklyn, Halifax, New England, New York and Philadelphia.

Northeast Division: Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec and Toronto.

Capital Division: Baltimore, Carolina, Norfolk, Pittsburgh and Washington.

Southeast Division: Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay and Tennessee.

Metro Division: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit and Indianapolis.

Central Division: Chicago, Green Bay, Kansas City, Minnesota and Saint Louis.

Southwest Division: Arizona, Dallas, Houston, Mexico City and San Antonio.

Mountain Division: Denver, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg.

Northwest Division: British Columbia, Calgary, Edmonton, Portland and Seattle.

Pacific Division: Anaheim, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco.

An 18-game regular season, played over 20 weeks with 2 bye weeks per team, includes home and road games vs. 4 division opponents = 8 games + single games vs. 10 teams from 2 other divisions per season. The pre-season is reduced to 3 games, including 1 home + 1 road + 1 neutral site, including the Hall-of-Fame game and international games.

A 16-team playoff format includes 10 division winners + 6 wild cards. Any 2 teams, even from the same division, could meet in the Super Bowl, always played on the 3rd Saturday in February.

Rosters are expanded from 53 to 60, with 50 active per game, and 15-man practice squads. Off-season roster limits are increased from 90 to 100. The college draft is reduced to 5 rounds + 50 compensatory selections.
