What upsets me more than anything is an offense that appears to lack leadership outside of gore and Davis. And that lack of leadership begins with kap. Yes he had offensive players drop a few balls, he had offensive players get silly pre snap penalties, he had offensive peers turnover the ball. But what must be understood, is that kap did all of this things by himself as well.
One player, kap, actually made all of those errors by himself even before you take into consideration other players who accounted for ONE of those types of errors. I really want all of you to go back and look at each of those sacks, I believe you will come away with what I saw, and that was a guy who is not recognizing blitzes, but even worse, he doesn't seem to know where his check down routes are. And please don't counter me with that stat that says kap is great against 5 plus rushes. Because the reality is most teams don't blitz us because they don't fear kap as a passer, and would much rather contain him.
Carolina has a good front, but you make things much worse when you don't know where your hot routes are. There is no question we should have been able to move the ball against this team. We killed ourselves with all kinds of errors that kept putting us in 3rd and long. But like I said earlier kap made more total errors than anyone else on the offense. And yes I realize if the other 10 offensive players aren't making their mistakes perhaps we win.
But I'm not talking about the other 10 guys, I'm calling out the one offensive player that made more mistakes than anyone else on the offensive side of the ball. If we can't beat the panthers at home then we are not super bowl worthy, that simple. I'm ranting now, but I knew that this game was critical for a chance to win the division, and we just blew it, we simply just blew it.
Because we will beat the saints (one caveat being: unless we are going to sulk like we did after the Seattle loss). Kap needs a ton of work on his pre snap reads, blitz recognition, hot route awareness, and even his ball security still sucks despite not having a fumble. His ball security was just horrible, and you can't but not cringe every time he moves around in the pocket.
With that rant over let's be clear, the 49er defense played their ass off. A damn shame our offense remains so inept passing the ball. Because guys careers are going to waste, and that's what really causes me pain.
