Where to begin with Goodell and his failures is difficult. He has managed to place himself in controversy without trying. His desire to get face time in front of a camera appears his greatest weakness. Once in front of camera, his eyes glaze and he is incapable of making sense or forming a answer that keeps the NFL or himself out of trouble. Worse yet, the staff he selected will cave faster than a condemned West Virginia coal mine. When questions arises, they concede defeat reflexively. When the storms are absent, they manage to find one and insert themselves as though some metaphysical gravitation sucks them in. But these are the symptoms of the problem they pose to the game we love. This group will not defend the game they are charged with defending. Saints Bounty-Gate, the players union debacle, the head "trauma" controversy and settlement, and now the Miami Hazing event - these clowns make Mt Everest out of mole hills because they refuse the defend/protect the players and the game.
Bounty Gate... what caused this? Was there ever a team that didn't offer rewards for good players? WTF are incentive contracts if not encouraging a player to do their best. If you're a defensive player, you head hunt. The annals of the game revere players who hit the hardest and did the most damage. Not Goodell.
The concussion SCAM. I can show anyone who cares to read the volumes there is no peer reviewed research/evidence that conclusively PROVES playing football causes brain trauma. Goodell refuses to risk defending the game – or is so feckless he can’t assemble a defense team. More importantly - huge risks are associated playing the game - spinal cord damage stands out -but every year players beat a path to the combine. In a nutshell - How is it a majority of players never develop symptoms? How is it people who never play a down develop the symptoms? There is one answer - genetic predisposition. That only explains a part of why this controversy exists. There are financial reasons driving the controversy. Some players - like Tony Dorsett, who despite being the league MVP and receiving the largest contract in the history of league when he played, was bankrupt three years after he left the game. Tony is stupid and cannot manage money.
Tony is upset seeing others having kept their money. If guys like Tony are offered an opportunity to play legal lotto and receive one more payday (money he will squander days afterwards) he will take it. Once the league caves to these complaints - they will be forced to pay and pay and pay spendthrifts who have proven they can't manage money. So.. Tony now claims he has... head problems. Right!
The more nefarious force at work is one that hates men, and their habits, and their sports, and anything men do that is testosterone driven, requires strength only men possess, and contains violence. RE: football. Liberals want to end the game of football, or change it so the weak and women may play. Why? MONEY and CONTROL!!!! It's the same reasons these people use to demanded female generals (with no battlefield experience) be elevated to the highest ranks - those slots are paid the most and enjoy the most power Look around - you will find copious examples of women who lack the experience or qualifications for positions that pay the most and wield the greatest power - slotted in those positions to satisfy a PC quota/goal. IF women can't compete – they demand the barriers be lower or removed.
This is what the PC folks want to do to the NFL and Goodell is paving the way for them. He prefers to be liked - rather than do his job and protect the league and the players. John Martin... Richie Ingcognito... PLease. If Martin @ 6-5 and 300 plus pounds can't stand up for himself - good riddance. His play is abysmal anyway. Truth be told - InConginto probably slammed him repeatedly for his garbage efforts. Now, Goodell is sending in another investigator - like he did to New Orleans. Does anyone doubt the outcome? Rookies will not be targeted or treated "disparately". Rookies will become a protected class - like women. What's next? Guaranteed playing time for all players? The rules of merit are about to end in the NFL. When that occurs what is the point of the game?
