Three crazy statistics that make me feel good about the 49ers vs. the Falcons

This post isn't intended to really give a whole lot of meaningful analysis about the upcoming game. If you want that, you should read this article, which does a much better job of sorting through the statistics and how they apply. What this post is about is pointing out a couple crazy stats I found. Here we go!

1. Frank Gore has almost as many rushing yards as the entire Falcons offense.

Gore has 1,017 rushing yards this season. The Falcons have 1,110. If Gore were on the Falcons, he would account for 91.6% of their rushing yards.

2. The Falcons' leading rusher has exactly as many rushing yards as the 49ers' quarterback.

While I'm sure this will change after tonight, this game comes at a strange moment when Steven Jackson, the leading rusher on the Falcons, has the same number of rushing yars as Colin Kaepernick, the second leading rusher on the 49ers -- that's 449. Kaepernick, however, has the higher yards per carry -- 5.5 vs. Jackson's 3.5.

3. The Falcons allow more yards per game than the 49ers offense generates.

This one isn't really all that crazy -- I've seen it before. But it's still weird. The Niners average 316.1 yards per game, while the Falcons allow 386.3 Most of that is probably due to the 49ers' slant toward rushing, which obviously will generate fewer yards than a passing-heavy team.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.
