Earlier today, Acme Packing Company and I both took a look at players we'd want from the opposing team. APC was interested in Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Donte Whitner, and Aldon Smith. I talked about Mike Daniels and Randall Cobb.
As part of our continued cross-blog content, we thought this afternoon we'd discuss what about the opposing team scares us the most as fans. It should surprise nobody that APC pointed at 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers have other weapons that have more experience and have been more consistent, but they still remember last year's divisional round game. The 49ers unleashed a scrambling Kaepernick that caught the Packers completely off-guard. Kap rushed for 181 yards, threw for 263 more, and had three touchdowns as the 49ers laid it on the Packers.
In looking at the Packers, the only choice I can make for what scares me the most is Aaron Rodgers. I suppose that should be reason enough to have picked him in the "who would you want" post. But either way, Rodgers is the reason I remain somewhat nervous about Sunday's game. The 49ers are the better team, but the better team does not always in the NFL. With Aaron Rodgers at the helm, the Packers have a puncher's chance of getting hot and making a run.
The Packers defense is not particularly good, but Rodgers can do enough to overcome that. He is a question mark due to rust as he returns from his collarbone injury, but that makes it all the harder to figure out what to expect. He was rusty against the Bears, but who knows if he'll be 100 percent for Sunday's playoff game. Ideally we'll see some rust, but you just never know. The 49ers have beaten the Rodgers-led Packers three straight times. I'm not
