With the 49ers in New Orleans preparing for Super Bowl 47, I have come across some new salary cap information, I thought was worth sharing. The 49ers will have a variety of small and big contract issues to deal with, so we want to keep you as informed as possible each step of the way.
As I have stated before, I expected Ahmad Brooks to have his salary reduced. A source has indicated it has in fact been reduced for 2013. It is expected to drop from $4.3 million to $2.7 million. On the other side, Tarell Brown has seen a $2 million increase up to $2.925 millon. Donte Whitner has also seen an increase, from $3.75 million to $3.85 million.
Brown and Whitner are likely candidates for extensions that would basically cut their salaries down for cap reasons. They could be joined by Justin Smith and Jonathan Goodwin in attempts to clean up some cap space..
At this point the 49ers are around $2.1 million under the cap for 2013. That number could very well change with more cuts, restructures and extensions.
