Trent Baalke talks about maneuvering around NFL Draft and what he looks for on Day Three

We take a look at Trent Baalke's comments about the team's expected 14 draft picks, and the opportunities they could provide.

One of the big storylines for the 49ers heading into the 2013 NFL Draft has to be the excess of picks they will have. The team has 11 picks, and is likely to land three compensatory picks for free agent losses. The team cannot trade their compensatory picks, but they can trade any of their 11 regular picks. There are few guarantees in life, but I would bet all the money I don't have that the 49ers will make multiple deals.

And Trent Baalke hinted at that very possibility on Thursday:

I think this will involve acquiring some picks in 2014, but it is also possible the team elects to move up in certain rounds. Having 14 picks gives the team as much flexibility as anybody else. And with a team that came oh so close to claiming Lombardi No. 6, too many rookies are not necessarily the answer:

"I don't know that we need 14 rookies," he said. "We need good football players."

Some people have brought up dealing picks for Percy Harvin or Darrelle Revis. I don't think the 49ers do this because it just has not been their M.O. I think they move down in some rounds and up in other rounds. I think they end up with fewer picks than when they started, and acquire at least two or three picks in the 2013 NFL Draft. The specific numbers are hard to figure, but I think that's a general framework we see.

One of my favorite comments was about the team's work on the third day. The 49ers have done some very solid work landing quality talent on Day Three:
