There was some chatter about the Niners becoming a dynasty team, that this Superbowl was the start of it all (leaning on the notion the 49ers were going to win). Except that the dynasties of yesteryear like the greats such as the Steelers, 49ers, Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Cowboys and any other I am missing from any professional sport, no longer exist. This is especially true in the modern post-realignment, new CBA and Free Agency rules NFL; a sports dynasty is that of a team consisting of many of the core stars winning multiple titles in a span of decade, give or take a couple years. Teams that show up to the final two but do not secure victories are/were still great teams, however not necessarily a dynasty.. do we view the Bills 4 in row trips to the Superbowl even they lost all four a dynastic team like the Cowboys even though they only went 3 times, yet winning them all? Not in the same light.
If we examine modern day great NFL teams and other professional sports legends a more competitive outcome is at hand. First though, we all know now Colin is the starter, his a top 3 or 5 QB in the league and has the potential for being the best in the league. He is not a NFL Champion, a great NFC Champion (I am disappointed but grateful for the team we have now compared to almost a decade of let down) who is still young and I believe will one day be a NFL Champion. Coming back, there are other current legends who are not perfect, like the dynasties of old, and how leagues now are structured completely different with new labor rules and profit sharing economics which has affected the ability for teams to lockdown players, like the during the Niners 80's dynasty. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Derek Jeter and whoever else you want to include. As it is very rare in modern day sports to be a perfect champion, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning... yes there are exceptions, Eli is 2 for 2, but is that like 4 for 4 like Montana or 6 for 6 like Michael Jordan?
I am proud of the 49ers; yes I am very very down today about what transpired... but I know that this Niners team has heart, conviction and the drive to be back next year, to prove that they are a world championship team of the NFL. QB's take a lot of the blame, and we all defend against that too, but use it as well at times. 10 starts in the NFL and Colin with help from Alex was one scoring play within 5 yards of most likely being a NFL champion already. It took Flacco 93 games. It could be another 18 years and how sad that would be, but I am hopeful and I am the 'Faithful.'
Dynasties are no more, at least not like they once were, being consistently competitive is now the new culture of the NFL, it is a lot harder, takes great coaching and a superb front office.. the 49ers are now at times Moneyball'ing like the A's did or Patriots do too... the Niners are creating a perfect meld of players to run the scheme, as much as I wanted the Niners to win and always the SB, the new reality is that the only thing you can do is to remain competitive, NFCCG every year at least or the season is a failure is where the Niners are at currently; which is the best any team can hope for as it is evident, in my opinion, like I said dynasties as they once were are no more.
I know its a hard fact to accept the Niners are now and never will be perfect in Superbowl appearance again. Its over, time to move forward... like LeBron James, he can't be perfect like Michael Jordan, and Colin, Gore, Crabs, Willis, take your fav they can still be Superbowl Champs, NFL legends, the Niners are to me the best team going into the 2013 season, even more so than how I thought the same last year and I would think most of you all do too.
