Success of the Running QB could break the model

You think you know what I'm going to write about. You think I'm going to tell you that running QBs are awesome because it's like an extra blocker on running plays. That they make the defense play zone so that they won't get gouged like Green Bay did. No, that article has already been written by better and more qualified people than me. This is just a thought. QBs could become the new RBs. In what sense? Because they run..no..because they could become expendable. Bengals-redskins-foot_hasc-1_s800x496_medium

"This new breed of running QB cannot have sustained success, they'll take too many hits and have shorter careers" - Every Media Talking Head

"So what?" - Imaginary forward thinking GM

When is the last time so many rookie and second year QBs had so much success this early in their careers..wait for it..never. Why? Because QBs take years to develoup, that's why NFL franchises must retain and protect their long term franchise QBs..BUT..What if QBs could have immediate success in the league, the same way running backs do. What if they could do so in their first and second contracts, before they made that Tom Brady money? What if when they hit thirty they just get replaced with the next RG4? Not saying its going to happen, but it could. Is this sad? No more sad then throwing Shawn Alexander on the scrap heap one year removed from him being the best RB in football and certainly less than Junior Seau's death. It's a cold sport, its football. We love it.
