2013 NFL Draft - Tavon Austin?

Going into the 2013 NFL Draft, the 49ers are going to need to address two things: getting secondary upgrades and d-line depth. Despite these needs, the Niners should also add another receiver who can provide big plays and contribute to small ones. In Super Bowl XLVII, Colin Kaepernick was hitting Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis on point all game, with each of them going over the century mark in yards. The only receiving target that wasn't reliable was ol' Randy Moss. Moss finished with just 2 receptions for 41 yards even though he was Kaepernick's third option on many of the Niners' offensive plays. (He might've even been responsible for Kaep's interception, but that's another story.) The AFC Champion Ravens were having trouble containing Crabs and Vernon; imagine what we could do with a guy like Tavon Austin as another guy on the field at Kaep's disposal. Check his highlights from this past season: As you can see, this guy is absolutely ELECTRIC. He can carry the ball, as evidenced in the game against Oklahoma (one of the top defenses in the country) where he accrued 344 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 21 carries. He can get the ball on jet sweeps and get significant yardage like Ted Ginn Jr. used to do. He can make the big play: he had a reception of 40+ yards in 7 out of 13 games. He's reliable: he got 10+ receptions in 8 out of 13 games. He can return the ball on punts and kickoffs, scoring 2 return touchdowns and winning the 2012 "The Jet" Return Specialist Award, the award given to the best return man in college football. He can do it all, and he provides a spark to any offense. Obtaining Tavon Austin would allow us to let Ted Ginn Jr., Randy Moss, and maybe Kyle Williams or Mario Manningham walk, freeing up a bit of cap space for other areas. His stop/start quickness, amazing acceleration, and fancy footwork are all attributes that make him an offensive threat. As I end this post, imagine this: an offensive line with top-notch guys such as Joe Staley, Mike Iupati, Alex Boone, and Anthony Davis, Frank Gore (who we all know is a beast,) LaMichael James (who looked like he could take it the distance every time he touched the ball,) Kendall Hunter, A.J. Jenkins (unproven, but his speed could be something,) Michael Crabtree (a star in the making,) Vernon Davis (the best tight end in the league,) Colin Kaepernick (who looks like the next great 49ers QB,) and Tavon Austin. Wow. Edit: Tavon just ran a 4.34 40-yard dash.
