BRING THEM ACROSS THE BAY

March 11th, 2013

With free agency set to open tomorrow, it’s unlikely that the 49ers front office will make a big splash. But, it is very likely that they will look to improve some of the team’s shortcomings prior to the NFL draft.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

For the right price, San Francisco could land some key players and not have to look further than their own back yard—across the Bay in Oakland.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

TE Brandon Myers (27/ 6’3: 256): If Delanie Walker is allowed to walk, Myers would be a solid and affordable #2 at TE behind Vernon Davis.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

DE Matt Shaughnessy (26/ 6’5: 285): Although plagued with injuries over the last few seasons, Shaughnessy is still young with good upside and may be worth the risk.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

DT Richard Seymour (33/ 6’6: 317): Seymour is certainly in the final stretch of his career, but still has enough left in the tank to be a highly valuable addition to the D-line rotation.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

DT Desmond Bryant (27/ 6’6: 311): Regardless of recent problems with the law, Bryant is a beast of a man and would be a huge upgrade in the trenches, especially if the 49ers lose both Isaac Sopoaga and Ricky Jean Francois.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

OLB Philip Wheeler (28/ 6’2: 240): With the best starting LB corps in the league, the Niners still lack depth at the position. Wheeler turned into one of the bright spots on an awful Raiders defense and would be a nice pass rushing addition on third down.
