We take a look at the Seahawks decision to sign Cliff Avril, what it means for the 49ers-Seahawks rivalry, and what it means for his budding rivalry with Anthony Davis.
The NFC West arms race between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks took another step forward on Wednesday. The Seahawks signed defensive end Cliff Avril, in a move that should bring some serious talent to that already solid Seahawks defense. Avril finished last season with 9.5 sacks, as he was starting to come into his own with the Lions.
This is a big deal for the talent on the field, but it also boosts the rivalry between these two teams.
Twice a year Davis and Avril #popcorn

In case you forgot, Anthony Davis had some comments about the Lions back in 2011, and got into it with Avril on Twitter. Things settled down following that skirmish, but you have to imagine there will be some animosity when these two square off. Add in Vernon Davis dealing with Avril this past year, and it should be a fun time.
All that amusement aside, this is a strong move by the Seahawks. It will be interesting to see who they move around with the addition of Avril. Whatever they do, this defense should continue to get stronger, even with the loss of Jason Jones and potential loss of Alan Branch. The NFC West started the week with moves for high profile wide receivers, and now it is adding to its black and blue reputation with defensive help.
Is John Abraham to the 49ers next on the docket?
