I agree with many on here that defense will be the focal point of the draft. I do not think that the niners will trade their top picks in this draft but more so trade their late round picks to move up if they have to or trade into next years draft.
Mock:
- 1st round : DE Datone Jones, UCLA
- 2nd round : TE Tyler Eifert, ND
- 2nd round : CB Jamar Taylor, Boise
- 3rd round : FS Bacarri Rambo, Georgia
- 3rd round : SS DJ Swearinger, South Carolina
- 4th round :LB/DE Cornelius Washington, Georgia
- 4th round Comp: WR Chris Harper, Kansas State
- 5th round, 5th round, 6th round, 7th round, 7th round : All used in trades.
- 7th round Comp : DE Joe Kruger, Utah
- 7th round Comp : WE Marcus Davis, Virginia Tech.
I really think that this draft gets us the best player available and doesn't have any reaches. It also addresses the major issues that the 49ers should look to address in the draft. Now a look at what the roster could look like come week 1.
Quarterback(2): I really do not think that the 49ers will use a draft pick on a quarterback. The QB class is extremely weak and if they take one in the later rounds he is basically useless during the season which means why take up a roster spot for him. If anything happened Tolzien would be the backup and then a veteran would be signed during the season.
Colin Kaepernick, Scott Tolzien
Running Back(5) I do not see us drafting a running back in this draft with the stable of backs we have. Lattimore makes sense to some people but honestly his recovery is a huge question mark. Also, a pass rusher like Washington would have greater value IMO. I am a Gamecock fan and follow them closely, so I would love to have Latt but his career is up in the air according to MD Andrews.
Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Anthony Dixon, Jewel Hampton
FullBack(1)
Wide Receiver(6) I think that Mario Manningham will start the season on the Pup list.
Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Kyle Williams, AJ Jenkins, Marlon Moore, Chris Harper
Tight End(3) I think that we should take Eifert because he is the most NFL ready TE in the draft. Multiple tight end sets mean a lot to our offense and makes us dangerous.
Vernon Davis, Tyler Eifert, Garrett Celek
Offensive Line(7) I think we are fine at the offensive line position. Last year Harbaugh said that Kenny Wiggins on the PS is a guy that is ready to go if anything happened to one of the tackles. Boone would step in during the game and following week wiggins would be activated. This saves a roster spot.
Joe Staley, Mike Iupati, John Goodwin, Alex Boone, Anthony Davis, Joe Looney, Daniel Kilgore
Defensive Line(6) Hopefully Ian Williams can step in and become a NT that we need. Which means that dorsey, jones, and Dobbs can rotate with raymac and smith to keep them fresh.
Ray McDonald, Justin Smith, Glenn Dorsey, Ian Williams, Datone Jones, Demarcus Dobbs
Inside Line Backers(4) nothing to say, they are pretty straight forward.
Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman, Dan Skuta, Michael Wilhoite
Outside Line Backers(5) Darius fleming ends up being a roster cut or demoted to PS. This group is HIGHLY upgraded from last season, since we have parys back and adding Washington to the pass rush. Excited to see Cam step up.
Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Parys Haralson, Cornelius Washington, Cam Johnson
CornerBacks(5) We have no money to sign a premier guy like Nnamdi, which means that we need to take a top guy in the draft. Rogers will likely be cut next season and Jamar Taylor has All-Pro written all over him. This guy is VERY strong and also runs a 4.39 40. He is going to be a special player and best available as trufant and rhodes will be gone.
Tarell Brown, Carlos Rogers, Chris Culliver, Jamar Taylor, Parrish Cox
Free Safety(3) It appears that a rookie may actually have to start from Week 1. Its possible that Mcbath may take the duties but I do not think a rookie is impossible. I really do not think that Reid and Rambo are that different, so I chose to take better players at other positions and grab rambo in the 3rd. Spillman could end up getting the ax this year but I chose to keep him.
Bacarri Rambo, Darcell Mcbath, CJ Spillman
Strong Safety(3) Whitner will likely start from week 1. I think Dahl and swearinger will be beastly on special teams and by 2014 swearinger will be starting. He is in line for when we let whitner walk next season.
Donte Whitner, Craig Dahl, DJ Swearinger
Special Teams(3) Phil Dawson is going to win us a Super Bowl.
Andy Lee, Phil Dawson, Brian Jennings.
This would be my final 53 man roster. I think the Team is much improved and ready for a superbowl run.
The team cuts included:
Trenton Robinson, Joe Hastings, Chad Hall, Will Tukuafu, Tramaine Brock, Darius Fleming
The Team PUP List:
Mario Manningham
This is how I can see the draft and training camp playing out. I think that Mario Manningham will come back after a few weeks to replace someone lost to injury or I think that Jewel Hampton could be placed on the PS to open a roster spot.
What do you think??
