MTD 3-round fan mock recap and projected roster

With manraj7 being AWOL, I jumped on the task to select for the 49ers in the mock draft organized by Dan Kadar.

My picks were the following:

#31 Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame

He was the best player available at this point by far. Both Jonathan Cyprien (S, Florida International, to Carolina Panthers) and Datone Jones (DE, UCLA, to Houston Texans) were gone. I planned to targer Kelce with picks #61 or #74, but could not pass on the opportunity to get the best TE in the draft. It also gives the team a great receiver, so I won't have to reach to get a WR later in the draft. For blocking TE, I trust Celek.

#34 Eric Reid, S, LSU

This pick was made by bayboy, not me. A non-consensus pick like all safeties would be at #34. My plan would have been to pick up the best safety available at #61, and get Jonathan Banks CB) here.

#61 David Amerson, CB/FS, NC Stat

This gives the team the tall CB Baalke was looking for. Hunt was off the board (taken 2 picks earlier by New England). I considered Amerson and Banks to take even earlier with #31-34. Being available at #61 this pick was no-brainer. He can even play Free Safety if Reid or Culliver cannot.

#74. Brandon Jenkins, OLB, Florida State

Brandon Williams was my #2 choice (went with the next pick to New Orleans). I am in the Ian Williams camp, I think he is our starting NT, otherwise why have he spent the last 2 seasons on the roster. I decided to go for pass rusher instead. I do not have faith in both of Fleming and Johnson. I think Fleming can even be stashed on the Practice Squad, no one would take him. Picked Brandon Jenkins, might have picked Sio Moore instead.

#93. Maliciah Goodman, DE, Clemson

This was a need/project pick, to try to get a successor for Justin Smith. One of the few 5-tech prospects in the whole draft, with 36" arms, strong (26 reps) and explosive (9’6" broad). I trust the coaches to correct his mistakes and to turn him into a starter.

As usual in a fan mock draft, WRs were flying off the board, WRs were getting picked 1 round in advance, so I was glad that I did not have to address the position.
