Disclaimer: I just thought this was an interesting conversation, but I would not want to realistically trade Bowman. But it is a business and sometimes crazy things happen. Obviously my title is just there to freak you out.
So my question: Is there any possible (realistic) scenario in which you you be in favor of trading Bowman and replacing him with Larry Grant?
What if we put Larry Grant in for Bowman, and traded Bowman for a high pick. Grant seems to have filled in pretty well in 2011. Of course he's not as good, but if he can play at a level close to Bow, and free up 3-4m space this year, and 7-8m+ in the next few years.
Think of what we could possibly get for him, AND have money to throw at another position. So we have a (hopefully) small decline in talent in our LB crew, but we sign Revis or Harvin to a long term contract, and we gain a HUGE advantage in one of those positions. It doesn't have to be either of those players, I'm just using examples. Feel free to throw in your best case scenario.
Here is Bowman's salary numbers from NinerCapHell.com:
| Year | Salary | Base | Signing | Roster | Workout | Option | Incentive | Other Bonus |
| 2013 | $3,105,562 | $630,000 | $1,675,562 | $0 | $0 | $800,000 | $0 | $5,580 |
| 2014 | $7,050,000 | $4,000,000 | $1,500,000 | $750,000 | $0 | $800,000 | $0 | |
| 2015 | $7,750,000 | $4,700,000 | $1,500,000 | $750,000 | $0 | $800,000 | $0 | |
| 2016 | $8,900,000 | $5,850,000 | $1,500,000 | $750,000 | $0 | $800,000 | $0 | |
| 2017 | $8,300,000 | $6,750,000 | $0 | $750,000 | $0 | $800,000 | $0 | |
| 2018 | $9,450,000 | $8,700,000 | $0 | $750,000 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
Using Revis as my example, we can easily afford his 6m this season. If he performs well and signs a 3 year $30m contract, we would almost have no problem. Others are saying he wants $16m, and I agree that's insanity, and I would never want him, or anyone except Kaep at that price. But it's my theoretical, and I feel Revis is blowing smoke. He knows he'll never get that ESPECIALLY coming off an injury. Maybe he gets 10-12m, but he won't get 16 anywhere. 10m would still make him the highest paid CB in the league after Nnamdi gets cut. Also, don't forget we can have maybe a top 5 pick this year, and any player of our choosing.
