Ok, so I know that every Niner fan is hoping that somehow Harbalke pull off nabbing a top flight safety, a day one starter at corner, a solid future replacement for Justin Smith and magically pull of the Tyrann Mathiue and Marcus Lattimore picks. I hate to break it to you Faithful fans but something is gonna have to give and we aren't gonna get everything on our Christmas lists this draft season.
However, I have been reading a lot of draft talk and given that it is not a science and even the great wizard Mel Kiper and Lord of the war room Mike Mayock have been wrong before, I cannot claim to be one to stand on a soap box and proclaim I am right. But I would like to have a question answered.......
"WHY are there so many mock drafts that see the 49ers striking the iron in the 1st round at DT when Sopoaga was on the field maybe 40% of the defensive plays during a game? Why take a player at a position you rarely use schematically?"
(*exception- AJ Jenkins- but hey, no one is perfect)
I see the Niners trading up for a safety to fix the problem long term, drafting a long term replacement for the Cowboy or solidifying the corner position. Maybe taking a flyer on Lattimore, but probably not Mathiue. This is not to say that DT wont be addressed in the draft, I just seriously doubt that it will be in the first round.
We all have our theories and our wishlists. 90% of those wont come true, but in Trent & John we trust. So if everyone is wanting a DT because Soap and RJF walked... think a little slower. We let them walk for a reason. DT just isnt that important for this team. Nickle 3-4 is our base for all intensive purposes.
