Ya'll ever watch that show Flip This House...?If Jed York, Jim Harbaugh and Trent Baalke were in the real estate business, they'd be filthy rich. Jed would front the capital, Trent would identify undervalued properties, and Harbs would fix them up. In turn, Trent would sell the renovated properties for a profit and Jed would say 'good job!'
But even though they're all football guys, this concept works the same. You saw how Harbs revitalized Alex Smith's career, and you saw how Trent parlayed that success into more draft picks through a trade with Kansas City. Since successful teams always pick on the back end of a draft, any chance to get high-end draft picks by trading a disposable player nearly always makes sense.
So when the 49ers traded back-end picks for Colt McCoy, I thought, "Ah, another reclamation project!" So if Harbs can revitalize McCoy's QB career, Trent could parlay McCoy into more lucrative drafts picks. The only challenge I foresee with that is getting McCoy on the field with Colin Kaepernick as the undisputed starter.
Unless Kaep goes down with some unforeseen injury, it's difficult to see McCoy getting much playing time. But if the 49ers surge out to 14 or 15 wins, injecting McCoy in for a throwaway game at the end of the season could make his stock rise up faster than you can say 'Matt Flynn'. I like this front office!
