Darrelle Revis trade: Bucs send two picks to Jets, sign Revis to non-guaranteed extension

Ronald Martinez

We take a look at the Darrelle Revis trade, and the implications for one 49ers opponent.

After months of speculation, cornerback Darrelle Revis has finally been traded. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers sent their 2013 first round pick and a conditional 2014 fourth round pick (it could turn into a third) to the New York Jets in exchange for Revis.

Upon consummation of the trade, the Bucs signed Revis to a six year, $96 million contract extension. While that seems like a lot, it is worth noting that NONE of the money is guaranteed. Revis is coming off an ACL tear, and seems sufficiently confident about his ability to bounce back in 2013. While the Bucs could be looking at a great deal, I have to tip my cap to Revis for accepting a "put up or shut up" contract.

I realize this isn't 49ers news, but the Bucs are an opponent in 2013, and of course they also signed former 49ers safety Dashon Goldson. That got the Bucs official Twitter account talking about how well they feel they addressed the secondary. ESPN's Mike Sando had an excellent retort:

That being said, the Bucs have added some solid talent. They were among three teams that finished 7-9 in the NFC South last season. While I don't think they are suddenly a Super Bowl contender, I do believe they enter the draft in solid shape.
