Nnamdi Asomugha contract: 49ers set cap figure for newest acquisition

USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers new deal with Nnamdi Asomugha is starting to leak out. We take a look at some of the details.

After waiting a few days, we are starting to figure out details from the 49ers contract with Nnamdi Asomugha. Matt Maiocco has some of the basics, and Aaron Wilson has been tweeting out some additional content. The deal was initially reported as being worth $1.35 million, with incentives that could bring it up to $3 million.

According to Maiocco, the $1.35 million breaks down as follows:

Base salary: $1 million
Roster bonuses: $325,000 - $225,000 for making 53-man roster and then $6,250 for each week active
Workout bonus: $25,000

The rest of the deal includes $1.65 million in inventives, with $1.225 million categorized as not-likely-to-be-earned incentives. That leaves the cap figure at $1.775. Aaron Wilson tweeted out some of the incentives involved:

The NFLPA updated the league cap space spreadsheet they made public, and the 49ers are currently listed with $1,714,822 in cap space. I do not believe that includes any impact from the Anthony Davis contract. That has not been updated in the NFLPA salary database, so I would imagine the NFL is dealing with final approval of the contract.

According to Adam Schefter, Nnamdi actually did not want any guaranteed money in his contract. While he might not have been overly concerned with money given that the Eagles are still paying him as well, I find it hard to believe this is anything other than agent spin. I could certainly be wrong about that, but I'm not sure I completely buy that he did not want any guaranteed money in his contract. Maybe I'm just a cynic.
