I was looking at the stat splits for Kap, and the most surprising result was that contrary to the popular opinion, Kap was the best in 4WR sets, and worst when only 2WRs were on the field. At least, that was the formation where Kaep was the most efficient during regular season, and by a huge margin.
He completed 74% of his passes for 10.23 YPA in 4WR sets, in 31 attempts out of 218 in the regular season. In 2 and 3WR sets, 6.91 and 9.22 YPA respectively, with 60% completion. In 4WR sets his QB rating was 128.1. Conversely, Kaep had 70% completion in 0TE sets, and 57% in 2TE sets. The YPA dropped from 9.88 to 6.57, and QB rating dropped from 118 to 98.This is where the injuries of Williams and Manningham hurt the most.
How much of it was the Droptimus Prime effect, and how much of it was the predictable playcalling?
The next I checked how Alex fared in these 4WR situations. It turns out that Alex actually, was even better than Kap in these situations. 22 completed for 27 (81.5%) out of 218 total attempts, 10.59 YPA and 135.1 rating. And he was not affected by the number of TEs.
How the rest of the league fared in 4WR formations? The next one down the list, Aaron Rogers, got a rating of 107.
