49ers Roster, 90-in-90 breakdowns: Corey Lemonier

Jason O. Watson

Breaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today we focus on Corey Lemonier.

Here at Niners Nation, we're presenting a series called "90-in-90". We'll be looking at every player on the 49ers offseason roster, one player per post, from now until the start of training camp.

One of the players I'm most excited about is Corey Lemonier. The pronunciation of his name has been all over the map. At first I heard it was "Lemon-ear", which seemed to make sense. I believe after the draft we were told by some media that it was pronounced "Lemon-wah", but recently it was said that the man himself stated it was "Lemon-yay".

Name aside, I think Lemonier displayed the ability to develop into a pretty decent edge rusher and possibly outside linebacker in the NFL. The latter will obviously need to be honed over time as is usual for college players coming to the NFL, but again, I think he can get to the quarterback in a rotational role right away. Another reason I can't wait for camp and preseason.

He has great size at 6'3" 255 lbs, and good length of the arms at 34.5". He's played on both sides and even stood up some in college. Some have called him a bit stiff in the hips, but the 49ers don't ask too much in coverage of their edge players.

Here are a few highlights of Lemonier from his time at Auburn:

What to expect in 2013

I think Lemonier makes the squad, which may sound like an obvious statement but the 49ers are accumulating a lot of players this time of year and there are only so many spots. Parys Haralson is back on a re-worked deal, so it seems he'll be on the roster. Then you have guys like Cam Johnson as well as some others who have been working at OLB. For Lemonier to get on the field on some third downs and grab a few sacks in 2013 would be all you can ask from a mid-round pick in his rookie year. I think he can do that.

Odds of making the roster

Again, I expect him to make the squad, but Jim Harbaugh will let the best players play and/or be on the team. If someone else blows the coaching staff away, there are only so many spots ... Still, I'd give him a 70% chance of making the 53-man active roster.
