Brooks arrest warrant not the ideal preparation for new season

San Francisco 49er's linebacker Ahmad Brooks is in trouble with the authorities, after an arrest warrant was released earlier this week. The 29-year-old has been accused of hitting team-mate Lamar Divens with a beer bottle three times, punching him and threatening to get a gun.

Those interested in sports betting at Betfair will have the 49er's as a contender for the 2013 crown, however only if the team get their preparation sorted and can gel as a team. Brooks and Divens' disagreement threatens to derail the pair's relationship off the field, which could have an adverse impact on it.

It is believed that an arrest warrant was released, only to be retracted. Assistant District Attorney Karyn Sinunu-Towery has revealed that the authorities are evaluating the case.

"We haven't had time to look at everything we have and make a fair assessment of what went wrong here," she said.

It is believed, according to police reports, that the pair were drinking in a bar on June 8, before returning to Brooks' house. Both were intoxicated, and it is thought that Divens tried to play a trick on his team-mate, by pretending to throw Brooks' keys into the grass. Despite the fact that Divens did not actually do it, an intoxicated Brooks took exception and attacked Divens with a beer bottle repeatedly.

On first sight it appears that a drunken misunderstanding is the cause for the incident, however it has also been suggested that Divens has been left with a three-inch cut on his forehead.

The 49er's fans and coaching team will hope the latest scandal just blows under the carpet, and will not impact on the side's training camp ahead of the new season.

Brooks has become an important player according to sports websites - he started every regular-season game last season, finishing with 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles.
